Collection Limitations

Specimen must be tested within 8 hours of collection. Test should be ordered STAT or ASAP if ordered on-site. If testing will be delayed more than 8 hours, aliquot plasma or serum from the gel or red cells.

Instructions for Collection and Transport

This test CANNOT be added to specimens greater than 8 hours old. Centrifuge specimen. Transport refrigerated on freeze packs. If holding overnight, aliquot plasma into plastic vial. Transport refrigerated on ice packs. If specimen cannot reach testing lab within 8 hours of collection, aliquot and freeze plasma and transport on dry ice.

Home Health Agencies: Transport to laboratory within 2 hours of collection keeping specimen cool.
