Collection Limitations

This test is only available at the Main Campus Lab, LSU Shreveport, and LSU St. Mary. The sample is only stable for 4 hours from time of collection.

Instructions for Collection and Transport

Main Campus:

Obtain Griener collection tubes from Hematology Lab. Collect Red top tube first. Then collect the two Griener blue top tubes that are supplied in the kit. Return all three tubes to Hematology Lab.

After sample collection, gently invert blue top tubes by hand 3-4 times. Do not shake. Hand deliver all three tubes to Hematology lab. Do not send the tubes to the lab in the pneumatic tube system. Do not centrifuge. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Transport at room temperature. This specimen CANNOT be stored overnight.

LSU Shreveport:

Obtain special collection tubes from the Hematology Lab. Included will be a white top tube and two special Greiner blue top tubes. Collect the white top tube first. Then collect the Greiner blue top tubes. Gently invert the blue top tubes several times to mix.

Hand deliver to the lab immediately as the test must be performed within 4 hours of collection. Do not transport through the pneumatic tube system. 

For the LSU St. Mary campus, the tubes can be obtained from the lab and after proper collection should be sent by courier immediately as the test must be performed within 4 hours of collection.
