Collection Limitations

Testing is only performed at OMC Jefferson Hwy Hematology Laboratory. Sample is only stable for 4 hours from time of collection.  If collection is performed remotely, specimen must be collected and transported to testing lab within 4 hours of collection. .  Have specimens delivered via STAT courier and notify the Hematology Lab at 504-842-5378 of incoming specimens.

Instructions for Collection and Transport

After sample collection, gently invert tube by hand 3-4 times. Do not shake. Do not send the tube to the lab in the pneumatic tube system. Hand deliver sample to lab.

Do not centrifuge. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Specimen must arrive at main campus laboratory within 4 hours of collection via STAT courier if remote. Transport at room temperature. This specimen CANNOT be stored overnight.

CSR Storage Requirements

Do not centrifuge. Do not freeze. Do not refrigerate. Deliver specimen to Hematology lab immediately. This specimen cannot be held overnight.

Reflexive Testing

If collagen-epinephrine is abnormal, collagen-ADP will be performed.

Patient Preparation

Criteria for performing this test: The patient’s Platelet count must be >150,000 and the Hematocrit must be >35.0%.
