Instructions for Collection and Transport

Blood collection should be performed with care to avoid stasis, hemolysis, contamination by tissue fluids, or exposure to glass. Use a butterfly needle for the venipuncture; the needle gauge should be between 19 and 21. If a syringe is used for blood collection, the needle must be removed before gently adding the blood down the side wall of an opened evacuated tube or polypropylene tube containing anticoagulant.

Maintain at room temperature (20±5°). Avoid the use of pneumatic tube system. Hand carry in an upright position. Avoid traumatic handling (vibration, shaking, or agitation) as all can lead to hemolysis and subsequent platelet activation.
