Instructions for Collection and Transport
Specimen is collected by physician. Optimal specimens include material from the endocervix or ectocervix.
Thin Prep: collected using a broom-type or endocervical brush/plastic spatula combination which is immersed and rinsed in a vial filled with PreservCyt Solution.
Transport vial capped and labeled at room temperature.
Note: For co-testing, pap smear and HPV, please only collect into one PreservCyt Solution Vial. Both tests are successfully performed from the same vial. There is no evidence to support any benefit to collecting two separate vials.
Ochsner Shreveport notes: Must have at least 1 mL in vial for testing. Specimen can remain at Room Temp for up to 6 months prior to testing. No aliquot is ever returned to its original container.
