Epic Description: SUBSTANCE P
Patient Preparation
1) Patient should be fasting 10-12 hours prior to collection.
2) Antacid medication or medications that affect instestinal motility should be discontinued, if possible, for at lease 48 hours prior to specimen collection.

Instructions for Collection and Transport
Allow tube to clot for 30 min at room temperature. Centrifuge and aliquot serum (5.0 mL) into plastic tube as soon as possible. Freeze specimen immediately. Transport frozen on dry ice. Freeze if holding overnight.
