Instructions for Collection and Transport

No more than 3 sets (of 2 bottles each) can be collected in any 24 hour period. If only one bottle can be collected, use gray labeled (aerobic) bottle only. Do not use the Pediatric bottles (pink) for adult patients. Pink collection bottles are for children 12 years and younger.

Transport to Laboratory within 20 hours of collection at room temperature. Do not refrigerate. If specimens cannot be transported within 20 hours, incubate blood resin bottles at 35-37° C and transport the following day at room temperature. Please send Microbiology Lab information on the length of incubation.
