Collection Limitations

This test cannot be performed on patients <14 years of age. 

For testing in children ≥4 to ≤14 years of age, refer to LAB10290 for ordering information.

Culture collection and transport devices are available through Lab Client Services at (504) 842-4623.    

Oral, anal, or rectal specimens require the use of the Aptima Collection Unisex swab or Mulittest collection device.

For children ≥4 to ≤14, only urine specimens are acceptable. 7mLs of Urine samples must be transferred to a Urine Transport tube within 24 hours.  The test order code is CGRNA (LAB10290) and is sent out to a reference lab. The Aptima collection devices are available through Lab Client Services at (504)842-4623. 

CEPHEID COLLECTION SWAB IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR SENDOUT TESTS.

Specimen Stability

Vaginal swabs in Cepheid Transport collection devices are stable for 60 days at room temperature. Urine specimens - transfer 7mls to Cepheid Urine collection device within 24 hours of collection. Urine samples in urine collection device are stable for 3 days at room temperature.

Instructions for Collection and Transport

Collect female specimens by using the large swab for cleaning and then the small swab for collecting specimen. Avoid excessively bloody specimens.

Collect first catch urine. Urine must be aliquoted to Cepheid Urine containers within 24 hrs of collection. Transport refrigerated on freeze packs or at room temperature. Refrigerate if holding overnight. Samples collected in urine collection devices can be held at room temperature.
