Collection Limitations
All other labs except OMC-Jeff Hwy lab: can only be analyzed in whole blood. Collect a Dark Green Lithium Heparin tube (no gel).

Instructions for Collection and Transport
This test CANNOT be an Add-On. If analyzed in whole blood, the test must be done within 10 minutes of collection. Ionized Calciums must be collected in tubes with a gel separator if samples are transported to another lab. Centrifuge specimen and transport to lab without popping the cap. Transport spun serum or plasma specimens in gel barriers in AMBIENT temperature. Specimens need to be recieved at the main campus lab within 24 hours of collection.
Home Health: Transport to Lab immediately on ice (gel tubes ONLY).
