Collection Limitations

Jeff Hwy Campus Lab Hours and Sample Submission Guidelines

Bone marrow Collection Operating Hours: Monday – Saturday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Sundays, holidays and after-hours: Technologist assistance outside of the above hours requires approval from the pathologist on call. Call Laboratory Client Services between 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM at 504-842-4623.

Sample Submission from Remote Locations:

  • Sunday – Thursday: Samples may be sent at any time.
  • Friday: Samples must be sent to the Main Campus Lab on the same day they are collected. Use STAT courier or cab if needed.
  • Saturday: Samples must arrive at the Main Campus Lab by 12:00 PM. Use STAT courier or cab if needed.
  • Holidays
    • No collections on Saturdays before a Monday holiday or Fridays before a Saturday holiday.
    • All specimens must be analyzed within 24 hours of collection.
    • Collections outside of approved times require pathologist on-call approval.

Instructions for Collection and Transport

Send samples in clinical specimen transport container at room temperature. Specimens collected on Friday must be sent on Friday by regular courier or STAT courier and will be processed on Saturday. Specimens must be analyzed within 48 hours of collection.
