Instructions for Collection and Transport
Do not collect first A.M. voided specimen. Do not add fixative. Use a clean, leakproof container for transport, labeled with 2 patient identifiers. Cytology Epic order must include the following information: source of specimen, patient’s clinical findings, prior treatment and previous biopsy results. NOTE Please indicate if specimen is voided or catheterized. Internal specimens should be transported to Cytology or CSR Laboratory immediately. Remote specimens should be transported refrigerated on freeze packs. Specimen must be received at Main Campus Laboratory within 6 hours of collection for optimum preparation.
